Rummaging through the archives of the National Army Museum

Anyone living in the London area or visitors planning genealogical research might be interested in historical records of the Duke of York's School held in the National Army Museum Archives. The School transferred a large body of records to the National Archives early in 2003 and some of these as well as copies of others were deposited in the archives of the National Army Museum. School records held in the archives are registered in three categories: PUPILS, MEDICAL and GENERAL.

PUPILS – Rolls, Admissions, Discharges etc. (to the number of about 39 registers/books)

1.	Registers of pupils by regiment
2.	Register of candidates refused entry 1804-1900 (a recent compilation)
3.	Register of candidates for pupil admission
4.	Registers of pupil admissions, various dates
5.	House rolls
6.	Registers of boys leaving to enlist in the Services
7.	Admissions book 1918-1969

MEDICAL (total 13 registers/books)

8.	School hospital admissions & discharge books
9.	Vaccination registers
10.	Registers of medical examination of new admissions – latterly Army Book AB 46.

GENERAL

11.	Births/baptisms/marriage register – Army Book 91
12.	Hospital Medical Officer's letter book
13.	Commandant's accounts 1815-1836 (2 box files)
14.	Miscellaneous loose papers, all subjects, plus 12 subject-headed folders
15.	Misc. incl. visiting Commissioners' reports & spare copies of Board Meeting minutes (8 archive boxes)

17.	Morning State Registers/Reports (3 of)
18.	Civilian Subordinates' record-off-service book
19.	Register of letters received 1854-1858
